.SWOOSH…….✅
Web3, bitcoin, crypto, NFT, META, etc. All of these have been foreign for me. They were things that I truly wanted to invest in but there was a disconnect in two things, the knowledge and the resources to invest. The information is out there but it has all read like jargon to me. And on the other end of that spectrum, those that I have seen invest in it, and win big, were already well off. As some of us say, it is a rich man’s game. I honestly had given up on it tucking it in a note and saving it for later. A later that probably would not have ever come.
Insert sneakers. Insert Nike.
I have to say that Nike has provided a breath of fresh air for me when it comes to the Web3 space.
.SWOOSH, or Dot.Swoosh, is Nike’s even deeper foray into the Web3 space. There have been many good articles breaking it down so I will spare a lot of the technical stuff and financials. I can say that it has been one of the most successful entities in the NFT space so far. I am willing to bet that a key to that is the simplicity and relatability in which the information is delivered to the community and consumers. In short it is a community based platform that will house all of Nike’s virtual creations.
Think apparel, accessories, games and of course sneakers. Those that are active in the community will have the opportunity to create, collect, trade, sell and display these digital creations. Dot Swoosh will also provide exclusive access to content and provide the opportunity to collaborate on certain products. I have to say that Nike has provided a breath of fresh air for me when it comes to the Web3 space. It is the very first time that I have felt included within the space. Of course they had me at sneakers but it is so much more to it than that.
I was recently able to attend a .SWOOSH session, a global tour that Nike has initiated to onboard new community members onto the Web3 platform. Through the session we were able to gain more in depth information pertaining to this virtual world as well as setup our very own NFT and mint it. This session was in my hometown of Houston and hosted by The Better Generation.
What made this session even more special was the fact that it was catered to two of the Our Force 1s contest winners, Syd and David. They are some of the first community members to be able to create their very own sneaker utilizing the Nike Virtual Studio with Syd representing the very first Black woman. Simply amazing. At this particular session we were able to listen to some of the details that inspired their winning projects and have a Q&A with the rest of the panel that included .SWOOSH representatives Jasmine and Franchec.
There were some very good questions. There were two in particular that stood out to me. Why aren’t there more events like this in the urban areas where most of the community leaders in Houston operate and what happened with the design of the Houston AF1? The Air Force 1 question was a little off base for this particular setting but a question that I had been having as well. But I feel that with Dot. Swoosh, and the way that they are going about it, a lot of community questions will be answered and some amazing things will be introduced.
The event was a major success in my eyes. Music was provided by DJ Mr. Rogers at session two with food provided by Stick Talk Hibachi. Dot. Swoosh is providing inclusivity to people like me. And that means more than they will ever know.
